Be A Lotus

I love the lotus flower.  There is something about these beautiful flowers rising above the water that inspires me and makes me happy and peaceful.

During a meditation recently, I began to see how we could benefit from following the path of the lotus.  The lotus flower grows up from the bottom of a pond or lake.  The roots burgh into the mud while stalk rises through the muck and mire of the water finally emerging above the surface with a flower of pink, red, white, or blue.  The lotus can live for hundreds, even thousands of years.

Like the lotus, our lives are often rooted in muddy soil.  These are the hurts, slights, and negative beliefs that we encounter as we go through life:

  • We get get teased or bullied
  • We fail and get embarrassed
  • We encounter physical or emotional abuses
  • We have our hearts broken
  • We lose loved ones
  • We dream and our dreams are dashed
  • We feel unloved, unappreciated, alone, depressed, fearful, not good enough
  • Etc…

But, if we live like the lotus, we grow out of these experiences and up through the murky waters of life to emerge above the pain, sadness, and fear to as beautiful flowers.  From this beauty and tranquility was can inspire those around us and bring happiness and peace to their lives.  With this gift we can create an impact on the world that latest for centuries, maybe millennia.

So my friends, I encourage you to “BE a LOTUS”.

“Daily” Challenge – Peace Meditation – 7/18/14

World events over the last several days have brought into focus the downward spiral of society into war and violence.  Countries fighting countries, religions versus religions, drug cartels clashing with drug cartels, politician against politician and the list goes on.

The Law of Attraction tells us that what we think about we bring about.  Thus the more we focus on the unrest and violence in the world around us the more of it we create.  In addition, the Maharishi Effect provides us with scientific evidence that even a small group of individuals practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique can positively effect the surrounding population.             (Visit: http://theuncarvedblog.com/tag/research-on-meditation-and-world-peace for more information)

So, this time I am extending the Daily Challenge through the entire weekend.

Your challenge for the next 3 days is to spend 10-15 minutes each day meditating on “Peace”.   Now, for this exercise I am speaking not of inner peace but external or global peace.  Direct your meditation to thoughts, images and feelings of peaceful resolutions to conflicts around the world, in your community or in your personal life.  Visualize what the outcome of this resolution looks like.  How does the end to the conflict make you feel?  How does it postiviely affect you and those around you?  If you cannot “see” or “feel” a successful conclusion then simply make the word “Peace” your mantra.

We probably won’t change the world in 3 days but even a small shift in the collective conscious of the planet can have a major impact.

So, have a great and Peaceful weekend!
