When we think of saying, “Thank you”, we are generally expressing gratitude for something another person has done for us. We thank our spouse for taking out the garbage, we thank our friend for taking the time to listen to our problems, we thank the grocery clerk for ringing up our groceries, and we may even thank “God” or some other higher power for blessing us in some way.
How often do you take the time to thank yourself?
Most of us give our attitude of gratitude to others on a daily basis, however we do not give ourselves the gift of gratitude nearly enough.
According to the Law of Attraction, what you focus on you get more of, so if you want better health, more patience, more creativity, or even more money you need to spend some time thanking yourself for those things you have already done for yourself.
For example, if you want your health to be better, thank yourself for: getting up early to exercise, choosing the apple over the donut at breakfast, taking time to relax and meditate, getting a good night’s sleep, etc. Thank your body for building a strong immune system, for its work to keep your cholesterol in check, or for keeping your joints lubricated and mobile.
The more time you spend being grateful for YOU, the more things you will have to be grateful for and the more people around you will be grateful you are in their lives.
Now it’s time for you to put this exercise into practice! Every day for the next week, write down 10 things for which you are thankful to yourself or your body. Try to think of 10 new things each day.
Your list may look something like this:
- Thank you, EYES, for allowing me to see the beautiful sunrise this morning.
- Thank you, LEGS, for a terrific run today.
- Thank you, SELF, for staying patient with my children.
- Thank you, MIND, for the terrific idea you gave me for a work project.
- Thank you, ME, for eating a healthy nutritious diet.
- Thank you, IMMUNE SYSTEM, for keeping me illness free.
- Thank you, RACHEL, for studying and increasing your knowledge
As you do this exercise, take note of how you feel emotionally, spiritually, as well as physically. Also, pay attention to how other people respond to you. Keeping a journal of your experiences can help make you aware of positive results and provide you with a motivational reference for times when your life hits the skids a little.
