July WellWork – Take Daily Action to Reach Your Goal

Welcome to July!!!  I hope you are having a terrific summer so far.

This month’s WellWork is about goals or more specifically 1 goal.  Most of us have several goals we are trying to achieve.  Some big and some small.  But, in the hustle and bustle of our daily routines it can be difficult to remember that we should be making constant progress toward those goals.

So, this month I would like you to pick one of your goals and really spend some time focusing on that goal.  I’m going to help you do it.

Here’s how:

First, identify what goal you want to work on.

Next, every day for the next month write down your goal and write at least 1 thing you can do to help achieve that goal.  It doesn’t have to be big.  Perhaps, it is research something on the internet or think up potential titles for the book you have always wanted to write, maybe you plan meals for the week to help you eat healthier.  It does not matter what it is just do something that moves you closer to your goal.

Third, once a week write down your goal and write 1 thing you can do that week to help you achieve your goal.  This will be something bigger or more global than your daily tasks or it may pull them all together.  For example, if your goal is to eat healthier you may make your daily goals researching and planning your meals and your weekly goal actually preparing those meals for the week.  Or if your goal is to save more money your daily goals may be to skip Starbucks and the vending machine each afternoon and your weekly goal could be to open a bank account for your savings.

The idea is to make this goal your focus for all 31 days of July.  If your goal is really big, like get out of debt, you may not reach the goal in 1 month but you will see progress and it will help you get in the habit of taking consistent steps to attain your goal.

Staying on course with your goals is easier if you have someone to share them with and to support you.  However, sometimes we aren’t ready to share with friends and family or perhaps we just want some extra encouragement  to keep us focused.  With that in mind I have created a FaceBook group, Achieving Your Goals 1 Day at a Time, as a place we can go to share our goals, plans and experiences as well as to motivate each other.
